As we close out the first quarter of the year, we find ourselves both astounded and deeply grateful.
March, in particular, brought an unexpected and significant surge in need. Until now, we have averaged around 26 households and 68 individuals served per day. This past month, we saw that number more than double in a single day, reaching 56 households and 140 individuals. That represents an increase of over 100%, a clear reflection of the growing challenges many in our community are facing.
These aren’t just numbers; they are our neighbors. Families impacted by rising gas prices, increasing rent, and the overall cost of living. While we remain hopeful that this is a short-term spike, we are taking proactive steps to ensure we are prepared for whatever comes next. We’ve redoubled our efforts to secure grants, expand funding, and increase donations to keep our food pantry strong and responsive.
Despite the challenges, we are not discouraged. We are able to meet this moment because of thoughtful planning, a dedicated volunteer base ready to step in where needed, and incredible support from our supermarket partners who provide thousands of pounds of fresh produce, proteins, and bakery items each week.
This is what community looks like.
We are always looking for individuals, businesses, and organizations willing to step up and step in, whether through donations, volunteering, or hosting a food drive. In times like these, every contribution matters, no matter the size.
If you’re reading this, you’re already taking the first step. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, we would love to hear from you.
