Scouting for Food November 8, 2025
“Scouting for Food” is the nation’s largest single-day food drive. It began in 1985 as a community service project by Scouts in St. Louis, Missouri, and was later adopted nationwide by the Boy Scouts of America in 1988. The program continues to grow each year, driven by one shared goal—to help fight hunger in local communities.
Across the country, one in five children live in food-insecure homes, and Brevard County is no exception. Many families in our area struggle to put meals on the table, and “Scouting for Food” helps bridge that gap. This year’s food drive will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, when Scouts throughout Brevard County will collect donations of nonperishable food from local neighborhoods.
In the week prior, Scouts will distribute collection bags to homes across the county. On November 8, beginning at 9 a.m., they will return to pick up the filled bags of donated food. Once collected, the food is sorted, boxed, and distributed to local food pantries that serve families in need.
In Brevard County, The Sharing Center of Central Brevard is proud to be one of the local recipients of the donations gathered through this annual effort. Every can and box collected by the Scouts helps us continue providing food assistance to individuals and families facing hunger right here in our community.
While the primary focus of “Scouting for Food” is collecting nonperishable items, monetary donations are also welcome. These funds are used to purchase additional food supplies that directly benefit local food pantries, ensuring that no family in Brevard County goes hungry.
Through “Scouting for Food,” young people in our community learn the importance of compassion, service, and civic responsibility. Their efforts—and your generosity—make a meaningful difference for families across Brevard County.
