Thank You for supporting our 9th Annual Backyard BBQ Contest held on April 6th, 2024

The Sharing Center of Central Brevard held their 9^th Annual Amateur Backyard BBQ contest on April 6^th at F. Burton Smith Park. This fundraising event is put on by a committee of volunteers who dedicate themselves to generating an impact in the community while coordinating a family friendly contest. This year, 12 BBQ teams entered the contest and were judged in chicken, pork, brisket, and provided samples to over one thousand guests. In addition to sampling BBQ from each team, guests enjoyed a full BBQ dinner included in the $20 entree fee. Over one hundred volunteers came together to make this year`s event successful and their efforts paid off big time raising $51,000.00 towards the Sharing Center`s Children`s Weekend Bag-pack Program. With the success of this year`s BBQ, David Brubaker, President/CEO of the Central Brevard Sharing Center, says they are well on their way to funding the 2024-2025 school year, but with an increased need for their program, continued support from the community is crucial. BBQ teams arrived to F. Burton Smith Park on the afternoon of April 5^th for meat inspection and attended a mandatory meeting at 6pm. They spent the night preparing for the big day marinating, smoking and grilling chicken, pork and beef. Each team invested time and money to participate and that resulted in a successful event, which is something to be proud of. At the conclusion of the event the results of the volunteer judges and people’s choice were announced, with the Grand Champions as Brevard County Sheriff`s Office Ag/Marine Unit, winning both the overall and the People`s Choice Award! Congratulations to BSCO and the other winning teams, Smoking Armadillo, who placed first in Pork and Brisket and took home the title of Reserve Grand Champion, and Drum Smoke BBQ for placing first in the chicken category.
